Here to help

From toddlers (3 years) finding their way to connect and communicate to young people building confidence in their communication and literacy, I’m here to walk alongside your family.

What I can help with:

Sessions are held at the Mana therapy hub in Porirua. I see toddlers, children and young people for assessment and therapy across a range of speech, language and communication needs. My neuroaffirming approach builds on each person’s unique strengths and their individual ways of communicating. A particular passion is the connection between speech language and literacy. I’m experienced in supporting students that require literacy intervention and have completed training in structured literacy approaches. I am currently completing ongoing specialist training (Learning Matters Intervention Teaching) endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association.

I am experienced working with children and young people requiring support with:

  • Autism

  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

  • Speech Sound and Articulation needs

  • Dysfluency (Stuttering)

  • Phonological Awareness

  • Structured literacy (Better Start Literacy Approach micro-credential & LMIT in training)

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) - CAT1 accredited - I can assess and apply for funded talker devices through ENABLE

Testimonials

“ I worked with Claire for a year in a school setting. She was always approachable and had good communication. She taught myself and other staff about appropriate oral language programmes for students aged 5-10 years old, she modelled lessons and provided appropriate feedback. At meetings with parents she was able to explain about diagnoses and possible interventions so parents clearly understood how we could move forward. As a new SENCO she used her professional experience to explain new learning and support me through tricky situations. I always left conversations with Claire feeling better. ” Carmel - SENCO at local primary school

“My son really looks forward to his sessions with Claire! She has a warm, natural way with kids that makes it fun. We’ve noticed he’s becoming so much more confident with his talking.” Sandra - Parent to Milo Wellington
